My products improvement over time

If you look at all of my mock up productsin order you can see them slowly changing and taking shape, I am glad that I chose to do a number of mock-ups as I think that they definitely helped to shape my product and make major improvements each time in order to produce a satisfactory product.

Asking a group of my friends and also random people around college about my product for feedback was something that definately helped my product gradually become better.I asked my friends mainly as I knew that they were likely to give me honest feedback and criticism where it was needed and I think this feedback also helped me each time I made a different mock-up and my final product to improve them where needed.
Another thing that helped was looking at other magazines for inspiration, I looked ones such as Cosmopolitan, Company and Glamour as they are all magazines which I read regularly and I think they all have a similar kind of style which I wanted to incorporate into my own. The target audiences are also all very similar, aged 18-25, female, 'trendies' and 'hipsters' so I knew that using these for inspiration would be a good idea to attract the same kind of audience. Model release/consent form

In order for me to have permission to legally photograph my model and use pictures of her for my product I had to create a model release form and hand it to her to read over, fill in her details and sign the form.

Below is an image of the consent form

My mock up products

I created three mock ups in total, my first was hand-drawn which I have posted about previously on my blog. Below are my second and third mock ups. The reason for me creating a third was because I was not entirely happy with my second so decided to add a couple of things to improve it.

This is my first proper mock up of my front cover

I am pleased that I chose to make a third mock up as I think this helped me develop my Photoshop and in-design skills as I spent a lot of time learning how to use the tools to make a better product. I think my third/final mock up came out a lot better than my hand-drawn one and my second as I used different colours, break out boxes and patterns for a stylistic effect so my third product looks a lot less static than my second did and because of this I think my final product produced came out a lot better.

e’ve all had those days, where you wake up with your hair looking like a birds nest, you have a zit the size of Mount Everest and your eyes look like a pandas.

No need to panic, we’ve got seven beauty saviours that can banish those bags, tame your locks, sooth your lips and minimize your spots! You’ll never be able to live without them once you give them a try.

Trust us, we know they work as they’ve been tried and tested and received amazing feedback! No need to worry about these magical products being expensive and completely unaffordable, they’re all under £15 so the wonk break the bank.

Before choosing to test these seven products we did a lot of research into whether they had good reviews and if they were affordable for all just to make sure we were getting the best for you readers.

We found out the absolute must haves in every girls bag, dry shampoo being number one, we are loving this stuff, it comes in a wide variety to suit just about any hair colour or even texture, if you have thin hair we suggest rather than using the opt for Batiste XXL Volume dry shampoo, poo, this stuff is just as good as their originals, well we think it’s even better actually as it gives any flat or thin hair the oomph it‘s been longing for! and as well as that it comes in a range of sizes too, from a dinky 50ml to a massive 400ml so whether you’re waking up with greasy locks or just need to freshen up on the go there’s something to suit every occasion.

We had fun testing all of these products and were amazed at the outcomes of them all! Only the best for our readers! We hope you lot end up loving these wonderful products as much as we do!

HELP! My hair is dry and the ends are frazzled
The best way to revive your dull locks is with hair oils and creams, they’re the secret to repairing dull, lifeless, dry hair. Try L’Oreal Elvive ExtraOrdinary Oil £9.99 and Sunsilk Care and Repair cream £2.99. What else? Make sure to use a wide-tooth comb as these types of combs are less likely to cause any breakage of the hair.

HELP! My hair is greasy and I don’t have time to wash it
Try not to wash your hair too much as shampooing stimulates glands on your scalp which produce oil. What else?Use dry shampoo between washes, this will absorb any excess oil in your hair. Try Batiste dry shampoo £2.99, this comes in a range of different fragrances and even different colours.

HELP! My lips are dry but I want to wear lipstickThere are a number of lip balms on the market for soothing your sore lips but the majority are clear and contain no colour in them. Try Vaseline Rose£1.79. What else? This handy little product heals your sore lips but also has a rosy tint to it which means you can get away with adding colour to your lips when they’re sore without them looking even more chapped!

HELP! I have black bags under my eyes

Most of us get black bags from time to time, we can hide them but how do we permanently make them fade away? Try Benefit It’s Potent eye cream £23 What else? Apply at night when your face is make-up free to let the cream sink into your skin and get to work on those tired eyes.

HELP! My skin is breaking out in spots

There are so many different spot creams and potions out there but how do you know which one to choose? Try Sudocrem £2.70. What else? This magic stuff is not just a quick way of getting rid of pesky spots, it has many other uses too, apply this to cuts, grazes, and rashes. Just make sure if you’re applying this to your face to do it at night as this stuff isn’t the most subtle cream but it sure does its job!

HELP! My face is so dry and dull

When washing your face make sure to use cold water as this will minimize the size of your pores and make your skin feel refreshed, it’s also a cheap alternative to toner because it closes pores, after washing use a light fragrance-free moisturiser. Try Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion £5.00. What else? Apply after washing your face making sure that your skin is not still wet.

t’s the party of the year tomorrow, you open your wardrobe hoping to find an outfit that’ll wow everybody, what do you find? You’ve already worn everything a hundred times and your fave party dress is ripped! Can’t afford to splash out on another expensive outfit, what to do? Don’t panic!  Think you need to splash the cash to look good? You couldn’t be any more wrong. We’re going to show you how to find the perfect outfit for any kind of occasion for under £20.

We bet you didn’t think it was possible right? You don’t believe us? Well it’s not too good to be true it really is possible to find gorgeous outfits with a £20 budget, trust us, we’re charity shops number one fans! By the end of this article you Glamorous readers are going to be charity shop chic’s! Charity shops have been around years and they seem to only just be getting the recognition they deserve, why you ask us? Well most young people associate them with their grandparents fashion sense but since people like Alexa Chung and Daisy Lowe have come on the scene and became some of the UK’s top fashionistas people have started to admire their vintage styles and learned to love all things old, vintage and retro, with charity shops being one of them! This is a great thing for a number of reasons, especially your purse! Shopping at charity shops rather than high street ones such as Topshop and Zara could save the average high-street lover on around £1,200 a year! The average charity shop purchase costs about £4 whereas the average high-street item is £20, you do the math! As well as being kind to your wallet they’re also kind to the environment as they don’t need new materials to produce new products, they sell second hand ones, so nothing is being produced, just re-used! And on top of that the money earned goes to charity as the workers in charity shops are voluntary! So now we’ve told you all the fab things about charity shops we hope you’ll save your money and the environment and learn them and become a charity shop chic!

13th Jan

My aim was to have tested all of the products I am considering putting into my beauty article by today and I have done so. I tested all of the following products: Vaseline, Sudocrem, Benefit eye cream, L'oreal hair oil, Sunsilk hair cream and dry shampoo and was pleased with the results of all products so I now know that I will definitely be including all of these products in my beauty article.

Project Management and Monitoring Production, 9th Jan - 13th

According to my schedule, I planned to complete several things this week, these were the following: finding a female willing to a models for my photo-shoot, booking my photo-shoot, thinking of a range of different ideas such as what outfits I want my model to be wearing, make-up and hair choice and also a range of different poses and facial expressions I want my model to do to produce the best possible pictures for my magazine. I was successful in meeting all of these targets! I went out and bought four different outfits including foot-wear and jewellery from charity shops making sure that all of these outfits were under £20 pound to fit the theme of  my fashion article which is 'charity shop chic'. I also purchased a number of items after researching them to make sure that they were good (I did this buy reading a lot of on-line reviews), the things I purchased were Dry Shampoo, Vaseline, Sudocrem, Benefit eye cream, L'oreal hair oil and Sunsilk hair cream, I purchased all of these items as I am going to include them in my beauty article which will be about the best beauty fixes/saviours for females. My aim for the next few days is to test all of these products out on myself to see if they are as good as the many reviews I have read say they are!

Contingency plans

What could go wrong during production
How are you going to avoid this issue? What’s your back up plan?
Models might be late or not turn up
In order to avoid this I am going to make sure that I have back up models.
Running out of network space

I will bring my memory stick in case this happens as it has large memory storage.
Memory sticks corrupting

I will make sure that I save things to my home computer, the college computers and also my memory stick in case any one of these things corrupts and erases my work.
Photo shoots taking a long time set up so that you are only left with a short time to get pictures

I will bring friends with me to help me complete tasks quicker rather than having to do everything on my own which would take up much more time.
Props disappearing

I will make sure that for important props I have backup props for these.
Cameras running out of batteries

To stop this happening I will have several batteries with me.
Computers crashing after you have spent two hours perfecting a particular piece of work
While I am working I will make sure that every 15-20 minutes I save my work.
Models not turning up in costume

I will bring costume for the models so this does not happen.
Vital files (pictures, text, sounds, footage) getting deleted or lost

I will backup all of my work on my memory stick so if anything gets deleted/corrupted I have another copy.
Creating work at home and then not being able to access it at college because we don’t have the right software or other software compatibilities

I will make sure that I only create things on software which both college and my home computer have.

Project Management and Monitoring Production, 20th Feb - 24th Feb

This week I made the finishing touches to both of my double page spreads and completed them. I have also been working on my magazines front cover improving it as much as I can.

I chose my photo for my front cover and noticed that it had a slight orange tint to it, I had to fix this by using, auto colour. adjusting the brightness and contrast and I then used the unsharp mask tool to sharpen image up.
Below I have added the before and after pictures of this. By doing this I think it made the picture look a lot clearer and professional which makes it more suitable for my magazine front cover.

Contact sheet

These are the best photos taken in my photo-shoot  I used four different outfits on my model. I asked my model to do a number of different poses, none too complicated because I just wanted to show the outfit off fully. Some of the photos are pretty similar as I took them soon after previous ones as I noticed that some were too dark and I wanted lighter photos so I retook these making sure that they were brighter and I moved the lighting around in the studio to achieve this.

I have now done my photo-shoot  it went rather well and I did not face many problems. Apart from the fact that a few of the photos I would like to maybe use for my double page spread are slightly dark. This is because the white balance on my camera I used was wrong so I will be adjusting this on Photoshop on the photos I would like to use.
